On the first day of Russian Health Care Week 2023, EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds hosted the strategic session on Modern Medicine: Priorities, Personnel, and Laws. Exhibitions as an Effective Mechanism for Using Breakthrough Solutions in Health Care together with a meeting of the Committee on Exhibition, Fair, and Convention Activity of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The session was organised by the Russian State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, the Russian State Duma Committee on Health Care, the Committee on Exhibition, Fair and Convention Activity of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Research Institute of Health Care and Medical Management of the Moscow City Department of Health Care, and EXPOCENTRE AO. The discussion was led by Vladimir Kononov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Science and Education.

Welcoming the participants in the strategic session, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Health Care Leonid Ogul noted, “Today, health care faces a number of challenges that require a comprehensive approach. These are digitalisation, introduction of new technologies, personnel issues and improvement of the legislative framework.”

One of the main problems, according to the deputy, is the problem of medical personnel. In this direction, the relevant committee of the State Duma has prepared a number of proposals that increase both quotas for targeted training and expand support measures for students, increasing the role of medical classes. “The main thing is to create such conditions so that the future specialist after training comes to work, for which he was prepared,” said Leonid Ogul.

In his speech at the strategic session, Alexey Vyalkin, Chairman at the Committee on Exhibition, Fair and Convention Activity of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Director General at EXPOCENTRE AO, stressed that trade shows are the platforms where advanced innovative achievements are always showcased. He emphasised the special role of industry congresses and exhibitions in the development of talented young people, young inventors and future entrepreneurs.

“One of our main goals,” said Alexey Vyalkin, “is to provide young people with a platform where they can show their innovative ideas, get feedback from experts, establish relevant business contacts, and attract potential partners and investors. By participating in major congresses and trade shows, such as Russian Health Care Week, young specialists get an opportunity to see first-hand how the industry is developing, what vectors are being laid down, and get acquainted with new technologies and equipment directly at the stands.

Thanks to close cooperation with educational institutions, trade shows play a significant role in the development of the industry’s HR potential.”

The head of the Committee on Exhibition, Fair and Convention Activity of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry also dwelled in his speech on current trends in the field of information and expert coverage of promising solutions for professional medical communities.

“An important area of work was the creation of special zones at all EXPOCENTRE’s major trade shows, where start-up entrepreneurs can draw the attention of a professional audience to their innovative projects,” stated Alexey Vyalkin. “One of the key advantages of start-up zones is their accessibility. Such platforms are created not just to demonstrate products, but should include special events and discussions that facilitate the exchange of ideas between participants. For young entrepreneurs and start-ups, this is a chance to present themselves properly and get feedback from experts.”

Alexey Vyalkin also told the session participants about such a relatively new trend as pitch sessions, which are short presentations. This is also an opportunity to learn a lot, as it requires not only a clear concept but also public speaking skills.

A whole programme organised by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives together with EXPOCENTRE AO is scheduled for 7 December as part of Russian Health Care Week 2023. It includes a number of pitch sessions in two areas: Artificial Intelligence and Medical Decision-Making Systems in Modern Health Care.

“A serious new project, a positive example of interaction between business and the scientific community, is the THE YOUNG MEDICINE Interdisciplinary Forum and Competition,” the Director General at EXPOCENTRE AO drew the attention of the session participants. “It is implemented jointly with the Filatov International Foundation for Biomedical Technologies Development. The project was supported by the Presidential Grant Foundation and was included in the programme of the Decade of Science and Technology in the Designing the Future initiative.

In 2023, 386 projects from 52 regions of Russia were submitted to the competition. The orbit of the project involves 206 medical universities and research centres. According to Alexey Vyalkin, holding THE YOUNG MEDICINE Forum on the same dates as Russian Health Care Week allows not only to effectively discuss the main issues of state policy, investment development, and HR potential, but also to present the developments of talented young scientists to the interested professional community.

The strategic session was also attended by Elena Aksenova, Director at Research Institute of Health Care and Medical Management of Moscow, Oksana Fomicheva, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Innovative Development of the Russian Ministry of Health Care, representatives of major state corporations, development institutes and leading medical universities of Russia.
