The 3rd WoodworkingSkills 2022 Industry Championship for Furniture and Woodworking Professionals opened as part of the Mebel 2022 International Exhibition. The championship is organised at the initiative of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia together with the Skills and Profession Development Agency using the WorldSkills methodology.
Participants will compete in the following competencies: furniture manufacturing, joinery, industrial design in furniture, woodworking machine operator - a new competency which will be held under the Professional Qualifications Council standards.
WorldSkills is an international movement that actively promotes the adaptation and development of educational standards in line with the requirements of industry around the world. One of the Association's objectives is to bring the qualifications of vocational education graduates up to industry standards. The WoodworkingSkills competition for the furniture and woodworking industry contributes to resolving this critical issue for the industry.
According to Robert Urazov, Director General of Skills and Profession Development Agency, “there is still a shortage of personnel in the country. But while earlier it was quantitative in nature, now it is qualitative in nature. There are people, but there are not enough competences. Therefore, the demand is primarily for highly qualified employees".
The competition will be attended by students from vocational schools and workers who are employees of woodworking companies, furniture companies and restoration workshops. This kind of championship at a major exhibition will not only determine the best in the profession, but will also be a great place for companies to show the result of their work and show visitors that a finished piece of furniture is a measure of the craftsman's high level of professionalism.
The competition at EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds will run until November 23.
