The 19th International Exhibition for Laser, Optical and Optoelectronic Technologies – Photonics. World of Lasers and Optics 2025 has opened at EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds. The show is organised by EXPOCENTRE AO jointly with the Laser Association with the support of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and under the auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
This year, more than 230 companies from Armenia, Belarus, China, India, and Russia are taking part in the exhibition on an area of 4,400 square metres. There are 138 Russian companies presenting their innovative developments.
The exhibitors demonstrate the latest developments in laser sources and laser equipment, fibre optics and optical components, instrumentation, optoelectronics and nanophotonics, photonic technologies for medicine, security, transport, and agriculture.
At the official opening ceremony Sergey Selivanov, Deputy General Director at EXPOCENTRE AO, stressed that this year's exhibition features both industry leaders and newcomers demonstrating their new products in the field of photonics for the first time. But Photonics is not only about hardware and technologies, it is also about networking, brainstorming and search for partners. Thus, today the Congress of the Photonics Technology Platform, which consists of 18 sections and dozens of reports, has already started its work.
Yury Kuvalchin, Vice President at the Russian Academy of Sciences, emphasised the enormous potential of photonics. Economists have calculated that the market of photonic products will amount to approximately one trillion dollars this year. Photonics affects various fields of knowledge and technologies. First of all these are medicine, transport, ecology, and energy.
Vitaly Vovk, Deputy Director at the Industrial Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, reminded the audience of the importance of photonics, without which further development of industry and technological security is impossible today.
Sergey Popov, Deputy General Director for R&D at Shvabe, expressed his satisfaction with the fact that today's exhibition is attended by representatives of several countries. Such international networking allows us to learn about the best products and introduce innovations into the next generation of products.
Nikolay Evtikhiev, General Director at VPG Lazerone, spoke about the numerous achievements of the last year in the field of photonics. The industry is now developing and evolving quite rapidly.
Sergey Gaponenko, President of the Scientific and Technical Association for Optics and Lasers of the Republic of Belarus, said that more than 200 advanced enterprises, which gathered at this exhibition today, vividly show how new high technologies emerge by synthesising and combining knowledge from different sections of sciences and different sections of economy and industry. High technology grows out of high science.
Zhu Xiao, Honorary President at the Laser Association of Hubei Province (China), recalled his 18 years of cooperation with the Russian Laser Association. For the same number of years the Hubei association has been participating in Photonics. He spoke in favour of expanding the partnership between Russia and China for the development of the laser industry.
Ivan Kovsh, President at the Laser Association, said that this April marks two dates. It is the 35th anniversary of the Laser Association, which was established in Moscow in 1990, and 20 years since Photonics was launched at EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds. The exhibition is a mirror of the industry. Once it was more scientific than practical. But today photonics is a powerful industry with a huge production volume. It is impossible to implement national projects and present the strategy of social and economic development of the country without it.
Photonics 2025 will be open until 4 April.
