An introductory meeting of the Working Group on Congress and Exhibition Activities under the Council of Heads of Chambers of the CIS Member States was held in a video conference format.
The Working Group includes representatives of the national chambers of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The meeting’s agenda included approval of the work plan of the Working Group, development of a cooperation agreement between the CIS chambers related to congress and exhibition activities, and other issues.
Maxim Fateev, Director General at EXPOCENTRE AO and Chair at the Committee on Exhibition, Fair, Convention Activity of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, moderated the meeting. He stressed that the creation of the dedicated Working Group was primarily due to the growing role of chambers of commerce and industry in the development of the convention and exhibition industry and international cooperation in this area.
“Russia is experiencing a transformation of congress and exhibition activities, and cooperation with friendly countries is strengthening,” said Maxim Fateyev. “At the same time, Russian experts agree that the main growth factors should be the modernisation of special and allied infrastructure in Russia's regions, training of personnel for the industry, and the use of information technologies.”
Maxim Fateev noted that the key areas of cooperation in the field of congress and exhibition activities of the CIS member states included national pavilions at exhibitions, business missions with visits to exhibitions and production facilities, and support and promotion of the most important events held in the CIS member states. The support of chambers is of great importance in building bilateral and multilateral cooperation between different organisations and enterprises involved in the management of congresses and exhibitions. It is necessary to intensify inter-chamber cooperation in the field of congress and exhibition activities in all possible areas, taking into account the interests of all parties.
