Lesdrevmash 2022, the 19th International Exhibition for Machinery, Equipment and Technology for Logging, Woodworking and Furniture Industries opened today at EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds. Russian industry professionals consider it as Russia’s largest exhibition and congress event for the whole timber industry.
Once in two years, the exhibition is organised by EXPOCENTRE AO under auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with support of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, EUMABOIS – the European Federation of Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers, the Drevmash Association, the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia, the Lestech Association, the Russian Association of Robotics.
The latest developments are showcased by companies from Austria, Belarus, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkish, and the USA. Thanks to financial support of the regional authorities, companies from Arkhangelsk, Bryansk, Kirovsk, Kostroma, Tver, Vladimir, Yaroslavl oblasts, and the Republic of Karelia are exhibiting with group stands.
This year, the exhibition product sectors cover the entire production cycle - from timber harvesting to deep processing of wood raw materials. They include logging, sawmilling, wood panel production, woodworking, house building, furniture production, automation, bioenergy, packaging, tools, paint and varnish materials.
An intensive conference programme of Lesdrevmash 2022 has been opened by the Plenary Session on Adaptation of the Russian Timber Industry to New Conditions: Supply Chains, Directions of Development, Financial Situation with participation of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and leading industry experts, heads of the industry associations, analysts of the market.
Sergey Selivanov, First Deputy Director General of EXPOCENTRE AO, addressed them and all the participants in the exhibition with a welcoming speech. He noted that in today's conditions the exhibition is one of the most effective mechanisms for finding new business partners, developing industrial cooperation, international and interregional cooperation, and establishing new supply chains in the context of a number of large foreign companies leaving the Russian market.
But despite their departure, Lesdrevmash 2022 has grown by 70% in terms of exhibition space compared to 2020. And there is even more equipment on display than in 2018 - over 1,000 tonnes of production lines, machines and tools. And the conference programme, which opens with a plenary session, will qualitatively complement the exhibition, focusing on the most demanded by the Russian industry issues, said Sergey Selivanov.
Marina Zotova, Senior Analyst at WhatWood, an industry analyst agency, gave an overview of the timber industry in the first seven months of this year and said that in the current new economic environment, Russian logging companies have at least the task of maintaining production volumes at 2019-20 levels and ensuring sales of their products both for export and in the domestic market. According to her assessment, the industry as a whole performed better than expected during the period under review.
Timur Irtuganov, Director General of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia, spoke in detail about the situation in the furniture and wooden panels market. The participants also discussed the prospects for wooden housing construction, the pellet market, the first results of the introduction of the domestic certification system and other topics.
WoodWorld, a three-day forum for the timber industry, will be held for the first time as part of the exhibition's conference programme. The Russian Forest Engineering Forum, industry conferences, panels, and thematic specialised sessions will take place.
