The RusMebel 2019. Efficiency in Today’s Environment forum of furniture and timber enterprises opened at the Mebel 2019 international exhibition on November 18. It was organised by the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia and Expocentre AO.
The forum’s busy programme began with the panel on Furnished Apartments: a Necessary Element in the Real Estate Market. According to the Association President Alexander Shestakov, the topical issue was presented on the federal level and gained support of the Russian government. The primary objective is to change apartment rental standards by including inbuilt kitchen appliances and other kinds of furniture, just like this is done in many other countries. All real estate market participants – banks that issue mortgage loans, developers, construction companies and, first and foremost, people who can immediately move in their new home – are interested in this opportunity. Importantly, new tenants will be paying for the furniture at rates of their mortgage loan, instead of a consumer one.
In the opinion of member of the Russian Federal Assembly’s Federation Council Committee on Agrarian and Food Policy Tatiana Gigel, the implementation of this project will not just guarantee sales of domestic furniture, create jobs, and bring additional taxes to the budget but will also offer substantial financial benefits to the population.
Deputy Director of the Russian Industry of Ministry and Trade’s Department of the Light Industry and Forestry Complex Vera Khmyrova noted the importance of apartments with an elementary set of furniture both for commercial and social rentals. She said the panel would help assess the opinion of industry enterprises, which the ministry was ready to defend on the high level.
IKEA, which views furnished apartments as an evolution of the real estate market and an important marketing tool, shared its experience of operation on the Russian market. Its representative, Igor Kisil, cited company data, which showed that 20% of buyers were looking for finished and furnished apartments on the Moscow market in an attempt to save their time, effort, and money.
Representatives of state regulatory agencies, furniture companies, developers, and construction companies expressed their opinion at the panel. In the end, the Association General Director Timur Irtuganov noted the rapid growth of the Russian furniture industry. He believes that the Association programme will boost the domestic market growth and help supply quality domestic furniture to all regions of Russia.
