The Mebel 2023 conference programme has hosted the Forum on Successful Start in E-commerce in 2023/24: Trends, Opportunities and Effective Tools for Scaling Business in the Furniture Industry. The event was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO and XWAY, an operational partner of marketplaces.
Online shopping is developing rapidly. It is confirmed by research made by various companies. For example, Yandex Market and GfK Rus found that the number of online shoppers had almost doubled over the last 5 years.
Marketplaces take a huge share of the online market: the number of purchases on marketplaces grew by 43% in 2022, with people ordering 1.5 times more often than in 2021. The most popular marketplace for sellers is Wildberries, with 60% of sellers concentrated on it. Ozon is the second, as the Tinkoff eCommerce study indicates.
According to analysts' forecasts, more than half of the online trade market will be taken up by trading on marketplaces by 2024. Sellers themselves often view cooperation with marketplaces very positively and report that sales through marketplaces are constantly growing. This information was given by 64% of sellers. Marketplaces are a very promising channel for selling their products.
Opening the forum, Commercial Director of XWAY Anton Baranov spoke about the current situation on the online trade market and gave practical recommendations for furniture manufacturers to promote and sell their goods in this segment.
