The 4th edition of the Young Medicine Scientific and Educational Forum has opened at EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds within Russian Healthcare Week 2024. The event is organised by Filatov International Foundation for Biomedical Technologies Development, the Russian Ministry of Health, and EXPOCENTRE AO.
Young Medicine has already established itself as an important platform for supporting young talents and promoting scientific ideas in practical healthcare. This forum not only helps young professionals to make a name for themselves, but also promotes the integration of innovations into the national healthcare system. This year, the forum brought together more than 300 participants – students, young scientists, teachers and leading industry experts – providing a unique platform for discussing relevant issues of modern medicine and its development prospects.
President at Filatov International Foundation for Biomedical Technologies Development Ekaterina Dibrova said that in the current 2024 year, 412 projects and research papers from 52 regions of Russia, as well as Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan were submitted to a competition of the Russian Scientific School ‘Young Medicine’. Two hundred and six medical universities and research centres across the country are involved in the orbit of the project. This year, the dominant topic of Young Medicine is opportunities for young scientists.
Ekaterina Dibrova also congratulated EXPOCENTRE on its 65th anniversary and the Zdravookhraneniye exhibition on its 50th anniversary. She informed the forum participants that EXPOCENTRE had initiated the creation of a separate platform within Russian Healthcare Week for a practical dialogue between the winners of the Medicine Young competition and leading medical and pharmaceutical companies.
“We are very pleased and proud that since 2021 the Young Medicine forum has been held at EXPOCENTRE as part of Russian Healthcare Week,” said Maxim Fateev, Director General at EXPOCENTRE AO. “We use our venue to create an environment where science, government and business communicate.” He recommended that young participants of the forum should definitely walk through the exhibition and get acquainted with the latest technologies.
“The exhibition presents 52 regions of the Russian Federation, 16 countries, 2 national pavilions and more than 10 Russian regional pavilions. There are exhibitors who came from the African continent, from Europe, from other regions of the globe, because serving medicine is a great service that unites the world,” said Maxim Fateev.
The Young Medicine programme was rich and varied. The plenary session and the biomedical module took centre stage, where such topics as innovative technologies of regenerative medicine, telemedicine, robotisation, artificial intelligence in medicine, as well as prospects for the development of cell and gene technologies were discussed. Among the speakers were leading scientists and practitioners, including academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, heads of major medical centres, and professors of the leading universities of the country.
Special attention was paid to the section devoted to the introduction of innovative medical projects into practice. The participants learnt about intellectual property protection, and strategies for integrating new technologies into medicine. The Foresight Session on Technologies of the Future – Medicine at the Crossroads of Sciences provided participants with a unique perspective on the role of biomedical engineering, nuclear physics, and artificial intelligence in the future of healthcare.
The forum concludes with an interactive block including a biomedical quiz for students and a presentation of a collection of projects. The final point will be the award ceremony for the winners of the Young Scientists Competition and the summary of the forum’s results.
