A meeting of the Expert Advisory Council on the Timber Industry under the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management has taken place within the Lesdrevmash 2022 exhibition at Expocentre Fairgrounds.
The meeting discussed the topic “Prospects for the development of the timber industry of the Russian Federation in the modern conditions and ways of their implementation in forestry machinery and machine tool building”.
Chairman of the Expert Advisory Council on the Timber Industry, Member of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management Tatiana Gigel emphasised in her opening remarks it was no coincidence that the expert meeting was held during the Lesdrevmash 2022 international exhibition. The exhibition and related events provide an opportunity to thoroughly analyse the timber industry.
She stated that in the current realities of the industry, there is a drop in production, including due to reduced exports and accumulation of goods in the warehouses of enterprises. For example, plywood production has fallen by 21 % and exports by 29 % in the first seven months of this year. Touching upon the topic of forest machine building, Tatiana Gigel stressed the importance of import substitution in the timber industry.
Yuri Kuznetsov, Deputy Director of the Department of Machine Tool Building and Heavy Engineering of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, informed in detail about the measures of state support for forest machine building. According to him, employees of the Department take an active part in the conference programme of Lesdrevmash 2022 exhibition, considering informing the enterprises about existing support measures as one of the important areas of their activities.
Timur Irtuganov, Director General of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia, Yuri Lakhtikov, Chairman of the Board of Bumprom, Nikolay Krotov, Government Affairs Director of Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill, Vadim Fidarov, Government Affairs Director of the Association of Wooden Housing Construction, and other leading experts actively participated in the discussion on the stated topic.
