The Report on Laser Welding of Casings at Oil Wells was made by the IRE-Polus Scientific and Technical Association within the conference programme of Neftegaz 2024.

Sergey Kopylov, project manager in the field of fibre lasers and technologies based on them, made a presentation. He told about TongWELD, which is an automated complex for casing welding. The speaker noted that the use of welded casing connection is much more efficient than the usual threaded one. The customer gets a durable, high quality, tight, high-torque welded joint at a lower price than the most affordable threaded joint, and higher quality than any premium one.

Among the advantages of the technology, Sergey Kopylov mentioned the low cost of casing, reduced drilling costs, reduced complications during casing string running and increased casing quality. In addition, the speaker detailed the TongWELD operation process, the main characteristics of the automated complex, presented the results of welded joint tests, and showed the audience a video material depicting the operation process at Tatneft's oil wells.
