The 2ndForum on Forestry Machine Building, organised by the Drevmash Russian Association of Organisations and Enterprises of Woodworking Machine Building with the support of EXPOCENTRE AO, the Committee for Economic Policy, Industry, Innovation Development and Entrepreneurship of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, has been held within the Lesdrevmash 2020 supporting programme.

Speaking at its opening, Director General of EXPOCENTRE AO Sergey Bednov noted that the Forum on Forestry Machine Building of Russia is a significant part of the supporting programme of the Lesdrevmash 2020 exhibition. According to him, this year Lesdrevmash, one of the oldest EXPOCENTRE’s projects, is held for the first time within Russian Industry Week, along with Technoforum and Rusweld exhibitions. The Week’s originality is in the opportunity for professionals to get acquainted with the showcased equipment of three industries at once. All three exhibitions demonstrate modern equipment in action, Sergey Bednov said. He noted that Russian Industry Week is a platform for networking, exchange of opinions and solution of urgent problems.

The key problems of the industry are the high degree of equipment wear and tear, as well as huge dependence on imported machinery and technologies, Alexey Kanayev, Member of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship, said at the Forum. At the same time, he noted that in recent years there have been changes, though not as significant as we would like them to be. Alexey Kanayev is positive that despite all the current problems the industry is developing, and the main thing is that the state is ready to support this work within the existing mechanisms. He also suggested that participants discuss ideas of creation of new state support mechanisms in the framework of the Forum.

In his turn, Vladimir Gorbenko, Director General of the Drevmash Association, sees the lack of cooperation in the industry as the main problem in modern conditions. "There is no systematic work of state authorities; there is no proper interaction between producers and consumers, as well as between manufacturers themselves. Thus, our Association has only 15 participants, at the same time 455 organisations work in the Russian forest industry. Thus, the consolidation level for solving common tasks is 2-3 percent, and in Western Europe (in EUMABOIS - the European Federation of Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers) - about 85 percent”.

The Forum participants, including representatives of government agencies, professional associations of machine tool industry, scientific community, as well as forest machine building enterprises, discussed issues related to systemic problems in the development of the timber complex, the use of technology, machinery and equipment. Issues of personnel support for the industry, including scientific personnel, were also raised.

All proposals made during the discussion will be reflected in the final document, which will be sent to the public authorities, as well as relevant organisations.
