At EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds a meeting of Alexey Fursin, Head of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development Department of Moscow, Deputy Chairman of the Moscow City Business Protection Headquarters, with the heads of the leading exhibition and convention companies, associations and organisations was held.

The moderator of the meeting was Sergey Bednov, Director General of EXPOCENTRE AO, Chairman of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Committee on Exhibition, Fair 

and Convention Activities, Vice-President of the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs. In his opening speech Mr. Bednov called historic the Decree of the Mayor of Moscow dated September 4 on the resumption of exhibition and convention activity in the capital in full with the observance of sanitary and epidemiological safety and thanked the Department on behalf of the exhibition community of Moscow for the contribution to the preparation of this document.

"Today we will talk about many issues that concern us. Exhibition life has begun. After a long break the first hosted exhibition Interfabric will be held from September 15 at EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds, and from October 5 we start the next cycle of our own exhibitions of this year. The Agroprodmash exhibition will be open, followed by Technoforum, Sviaz and other exhibitions”, Sergey Bednov said.

According to Alexey Fursin, the resumption of exhibitions and conventions is a landmark event, as the exhibition and convention industry covers not only exhibition companies, but almost all business that shows and promotes its products at exhibitions. Exhibitions are also platforms for business negotiations between representatives of all types of business - small, medium and large.

The Head of the Department told in detail about the measures of support of the Moscow City Government to the exhibitors of the capital region in the form of compensation of their expenses for participation in the exhibition and convention events in Russia and abroad - up to 50% and 70%, respectively. Alexey Fursin noted that the application for each subsidy should be documented by the cost structure. At the same time he declared his readiness to conduct a dialogue on optimization and simplification of procedures for submission of necessary documents.

The participants in the meeting highlighted the importance of the compensation measures for domestic manufacturer, especially for small and medium business.

During the discussion it was noted that exhibitions are a universal marketing tool and a powerful sales channel. One square meter of exhibition space generates contracts amounting to 1.6 million within a year after the end of the exhibition. The industry of exhibitions and conventions occupies a significant position in the economic life of Moscow and Moscow region. Its turnover reaches 134 billion rubles and employs 11.5 thousand people. Moscow accounts for 83% of the total revenue of the whole exhibition and convention industry in Russia.

Summing up the exchange of views, Sergey Bednov noted that very important topics were discussed, including how to plan the activity in the future, how to modernise participation in exhibitions, to simplify the receipt of subsidies, to use electronic formats and other pressing issues.
