Today at Expocentre Fairgrounds, the finalists of the second WorldSkills championship in the furniture and woodworking industry, Woodworking Skills 2021, were awarded within the framework of the Mebel 2021 international exhibition.

The championship took place over three days, November 22-24. It was organised by the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia, WorldSkills Russia and EXPOCENTRE AO.

For the Woodworking Skills 2021 competition, the traditional competences for the furniture and woodworking industry were selected: Carpentry, Furniture Production, Woodwork Restoration, and Industrial Design. In addition to these, another competence was introduced for the first time - "Foreman of Furniture Production".

During the awards ceremony, Timur Irtuganov, Director General of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia, thanked WorldSkills for the excellent organisation of the competition, which lasted three days at Expocentre Fairgrounds during the Mebel 2021 exhibition.

Andrey Kryukov, Deputy Technical Director of WorldSkills Russia, said that such competitions not only test the skills of the champions and choose the best, but also demonstrate those advanced technologies that are in demand and applied today in the industry.

Sergey Selivanov, First Deputy Director General of EXPOCENTRE AO, said that he would like to point out the wide geography of the participants. Representatives of small, medium and large businesses as well as students from various educational institutions, from Moscow and St. Petersburg to Vladivostok, came to the championship. This underlined the level and status of the event.

Prizes were awarded to winners in five categories.
